District of Kent
Kent is bordered by the Fraser River to the South, Fraser Valley Regional District unincorporated areas (FVRD uc), leading to Deroche and Mission to the west along Scenic Highway 7, Harrison Hot Springs and Harrison Lake to the north and FVRD uc, leading to Hope via Scenic 7. Kent comprises the communities of: Agassiz, Chehalis, Harrison Mills, Kent & Seabird Island, with a combined population of 5,300. The Aberdeen Hotel, in Agassiz, was replicated in 1995 to act as an information/historical area with public washrooms and a performance platform. It is open May to October. Major highways connecting Kent with the Valley are Scenic 7 (Lougheed) running East and West and 9 which runs north and south. Local beaches may enjoyed at the Sasquatch Provincial Park, Harrison Hot Springs lagoon and Kilby Park. The Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre, Agassiz, is part of the Research Branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Research is conducted on intensive crop production systems, integrated pest management, poultry nutrition and sustainable agriculture. Take virtual visit through the Research Center Web Site.
