Open: September to June, Monday to Friday, 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm and in July and August, 7 days a week, 9 am to 4 pm.
At XÁ:YTEM, the interpreters portray the history and culture of the people of the river, the Stó:lo. Not only do they share the knowledge of cedar, but the staff tell of stories written in blankets of mountain goat hair, of an ancient house older than the Egyptian pyramids, of three Chiefs who were turned to stone, and of a people who have lived here for over five hundred generations.
Archaeological evidence from Xá:ytem is physical testimony of long term Stó:lo presence, cultural traditions and spirituality. It also demonstrates that ancestors of the Stó:lo were a socially developed sedentary society of people who fished for salmon, systematically harvested the forests, traded over great distances and practiced a life rich in ceremony.
