Today, Steveston is vibrant, as the oldest surviving community in the Lower Mainland. Historic Steveston has evolved into a picturesque working fishing village but without a single operating cannery. Home to almost 1,000 commercial fishing vessels, it is the largest commercial fishing harbour in Canada. Visitors delight in buying the tuna, cod, salmon, sole, halibut, ship, prawns and crab directly from the boats at the public fish dock. Home to Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, Britannia Heritage Shipyard National Historic Site and the Steveston Museum. Stroll the dikes (allow two and a half hours for a complete walk around the southwestern edge of Steveston).
